Your expert hosts will demystify downtown Austin’s points of interest from the past, present, and future. Beer, wine, and light snacks will be available for purchase. Your Guides and Hosts

Lawrence W. Speck, FAIA, is Senior Design Principal for Page Architects and a well-known design educator and faculty member at M.I.T, University of Western Australia and University of Texas at Austin. He served as Dean of the School of Architecture at University of Texas at Austin from1992–2001. Speck has led six major master planning projects including the seven-mile stretch of the Colorado River as it moves through downtown, the 40-block area around the Texas State Capitol, and the new Dell Medical School campus. He has also been lead architect for two major park projects in downtown Houston—Discovery Green and Buffalo Bayou Park—as well as the lead designer for Austin Bergstrom International Airport Terminal, Austin Convention Center, and academic buildings on six university campuses.

Gabriella Bermea, AIA, is a Design Architect at the VLK Architects Austin office with a passion for philanthropy, education, and advocacy. She is essential to the VLK | LAUNCH process, interviews, long-range facility planning, and project design. Gabriella is an advocate for public education students, serving on her local education foundation, the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE), focused on designing the ‘School of the Future’ by partnering with K-12 schools and the ACE Mentor Program of Austin. Gabriella also serves as the Communications Director for the AIA National Young Architects Forum, as an AIA Austin Board member, and as a Texas Society of Architects Board member and EDI Committee Chair.

This unique experience will highlight recent changes to the skyline as well as the opportunities and challenges ahead. The fall edition will be led by two new architecture and design luminaries. Seating will be first-come, first-served. Seats on the top deck are not guaranteed to all attendees so please arrive early.
